Girls v Boys
We have been very lucky with our broodmares : Three of the mares are ex polo ponies, with varying injuries but lucky for us still able to be used for breeding.
Chola, who is known at home as Doris, is an 8 year old Argentine thoroughbred mare who was given to us in 2006 by a patron at Hurtwood Park Polo Club. Martin asked us to find a companion home for her, and so it began. After a little persuasion from Simon she was the start of our new little venture to become a stud.
We then approached a close friend about leasing his 18.2hh Shire Beauty mare as Simon is very tall.
Then, by chance, another polo pony called Shamballa, who is a 13 year old Argentine thoroughbred mare, she was offered to us by ex bosses Stuart and Kay. We had known the mare for a few years and then were lucky enough to take her on as a broodmare as she also was unable to play but she would be upto light exercise or breeding. She had a healthy dun filly by Loxwood Carter (Connemara) on the 4th May and now belongs to Michelle Taylor.
Word got around! Our third polo pony, a 7 year old called Fred, came via a friend, Binny, who helped with the first foal Pilot. Fred was also put to Mr Dennis Fisher's Connemara stallion, Loxwood Carter. Fred had a roan filly, photo's can now been seen of the foals born on the 4th May and the 26th May, on various pages of our website. Fred and Doris now belong to Caz Maycock.
Unfortunately, Chola and Beauty the Shire mare, are sadly not in foal this year 07. Beauty has returned to her owner, whilst Chola is enjoying her new life as Auntie to the youngstock.
Roll o'the Heather (Heather) is our TB filly by Green Horizon, whose sire is Green Desert. We bought her at weaning from The Equine Fertility Unit in Newmarket in September. She has settled in well and we think is showing lots of potential for next year.
Starwort TB by Soviet Star was also bought from The Equine Fertility Unit, she came with a foal at foot, she is now in foal to Resplendent Cee TB for 2009. The foal has been sold and is doing very well in his new home.
Time for the Boys
We found an advert for Cressingham National Silver (Spyder) on the Irish Draught Website under the pure-bred youngstock section. He is by the R.I.D. Stallion Young Prospect out of an R.I.D. mare Ashill Silver Lady. He was for sale at weaning, in Norfolk, and had a stunning photo so we had to go and see him for ourselves. We paid the deposit there and then, as the photo did him great justice. We collected him on 13th October 2007.
Our other boy is Snowford Farmers Boy (Boysie). He was sold to us by Pam Symonds, President of the Irish Draught Society. So, as you can see, we have some very special stock and will keep our site updated with news for your interest.
For results and news we do have a news page, so please take time to see how things are going.
